The head of the banned East Bangla Communist Party (red flag) and one of his associates were killed in a ’gunfight’ with the elite force RAB in the district’s Goalanda.
This incident happened early Saturday at Rakhalgachhi Char of Goalanda upazila.
The deceased were identified as Bappi (35), chief of Lal Potaka Bahini, and his associate Lalon (30).
Rois Uddin, additional superintendent of police, and also company commander of Rab Faridpur camp, said Bappi was holding a meeting with his associates in the area. On secret information, a team of Rab conducted a drive there. Sensing the presence of elite force, the outlaw men opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a gunfight. Later, the bodies of Bappi and Lalon were found on the spot.
He also said a gun and 60 rounds of bullets were recovered from the scene.
Two Rab members also were injured in the incident.
